ThatridewasperhapsthemostwonderfulthingthathappenedtotheminNarnia.Haveyoueverhadagalloponahorse?Thinkofthat;andthentakeawaytheheavynoiseofthehoofsandthejingleofthebitsandimagineinsteadthealmostnoiselesspaddingofthegreatpaws.Thenimagineinsteadoftheblackorgreyorchestnutbackofthehorsethesoftroughnessofgoldenfur,andthemaneflyingbackinthewind.Andthenimagineyouaregoingabouttwiceasfastasthefastestracehorse.Butthisisamountthatdoesn’tneedtobeguidedandnevergrowstired.Herushesonandon,nevermissinghisfooting,neverhesitating,threadinghiswaywithperfectskillbetweentreetrunks,jumpingoverbushandbriarandthesmallerstreams,wadingthelarger,swimmingthelargestofall.Andyouareridingnotonaroadnorinaparknorevenonthedowns,butrightacrossNarnia,inspring,downsolemnavenuesofbeechandacrosssunnygladesofoak,throughwildorchardsofsnow-whitecherrytrees,pastroaringwaterfallsandmossyrocksandechoingcaverns,upwindyslopesalightwithgorsebushes,andacrosstheshouldersofheatherymountainsandalonggiddyridgesanddown,down,downagainintowildvalleysandoutintoacresofblueflowers.
